Friday, April 4, Saturday, March 5, & Sunday, March 6.  Very Rev. Martin Chomiw, JD. born in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.  He studied philosophy, theology and canon law in Rome. Very Rev. Chomiw serves as assistant pastor in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Ternopil, Ukraine and works in the Eparchial Tribunal. He currently is studying diplomacy and communications in the St. Gabriel Institute UCC in Washington DC. He is married to a doctor Dr. Maria, a psychotherapist, and father of Ann, a psychologist.  He will be here for lessons and confession.

Spiritual Regulations for the Great Fast

Although our Church traditionally prescribed abstention from meat and dairy products in days gone by for the entire duration of the Great Fast, the following are the minimal Lenten regulations today:  Abstinence from meat and all dairy products on the First Day of the Great Fast and on Good Friday.  Abstinence from meat only on all Fridays of the Great Fast as well as Holy Saturday.  It is also traditional to abstain from meat on Wednesdays during the Great Fast.  Reception of the Holy Mysteries of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist during the period from the onset of Great Fast to the Wednesday before Ascension Thursday. The Fasting and Abstinence regulations are not binding on persons 60 or older, the very poor, sick, nursing or pregnant women, children below the age of 14, and those who engage in physically very hard labor. However, all are urged, if able to do so, to observe the fasting and abstinence regulations.  All the faithful are urged to attend the Lenten services such as Lenten Vespers, the Presanctified Liturgy and the Commemoration of the Deceased (Sorokousty).  Such good deeds as almsgiving, visitation of the sick, Bible reading and praying for vocations to the priesthood and religious life are most earnestly recommended to all the Faithful.

Духовні правила на Великий Піст

Хоч наша Церква традиційно приписує утримання від споживання м’яса і молочних страв у всі дні Великого Посту, подаємо мінімальні Великопосні правила на сьогодні:  Утримання від вживання м’яса та молочних страв в перший день Великого Посту, та в Страсну П’ятницю. Утримання від вживання м’яса у всі п’ятниці Великого Посту як і на Страсну Суботу.  Традиційно утримуються від вживання м’яса ще й по середах Великого Посту.  Таїнство сповіді з Пресвятою Євхаристією приймається в період від початку Великого Посту до середи перед святом Вознесіння Господнього. Піст та правила утримання не зобов’язують людей старше 60-ти років, дуже немічних, жінок-годувальниць і вагітних, дітей до 14 років і тих, хто важко працює фізично.  Однак, всіх закликається, якщо це можливо, дотримуватися посту і обмежуючих правил.  Усіх вірних закликається брати участь у Великопосних богослуженнях, таких як великопосна  Вечірня, Літургія Напередосвячених Дарів та Сорокоусти.  Щиро заохочуємо всіх вірних до таких добрих діл як милостиня, відвідання хворих, Біблійні читання та молитви за покликання до священства та релігійного життя.

Третя Неділя Великого Посту – Хрестопоклінна Неділя

Тропар Воскресний Голос 3: Нехай веселяться небесні, нехай радуються земляни,* бо показав владу рукою Своєю Господь.* Він смертю смерть подолав,* первістком з-поміж мертвих став,* визволив нас із глибин аду* i подав світові велику милість.

Тропар Хреста голос 7:  Спаси, Господи, людей Твоїх* і благослови спадкоємство Твоє,* перемогу благовірному народові на супротивників даруй* і хрестом Твоїм* охорони люд Твоїх.

Слава Отцю і Сину і Святому Духові; i нині і повсякчас і на віки вічні. Амінь.

Кондак Посний голос 7:  Вже полум’яне оружжя не охороняє ворота єдемських,* на Нього бо прийшло преславне погашення – Дерево хресне;* смерти жало і адову перемогу прогнано,* і став Ти, Спасе мій,* перед тими, що в аді, кличучи:*  Увійдіть знову в рай.

Замість «Святий Боже» співаємо: «Хресту Твоєму поклоняємся Владико; і святе воскресіння твоє славимо». (3)

Слава Отця і Сину і Святому Духову і нині і повсякчас і на віки вічні. Амінь.

Заамвонну молитву:  Боже і Отче слави, який віддав за нас Єдинородного Свого Сина, і синами привів нас до Себе через Нього, і знов удостоївся Духа Святого!  Змилосердься і нині над нами, що переступили заповіді Твої, і не погуби нас з віддаленими від Тебе, і не наведи на нас голод в Твоїх духовних дарах; але сподоби нас наближатися до Тебе устами і серцем, і гідність усиновлення ділом яви над нами, які наслідуємо наверненням до Тебе блудного сина, в якому Ти показав нам невимовне Твоє до грішників чоловіколюбство; щоб ми досягли Твоїх безконечних благ, які Ти приготував виконавцям Твоєї волі. Благодаттю і милосердям і чоловіколюбством Єдинородного Сина Твого, з Ним же благословенний єси, з всесвятим, благим і животворним Твоїм Духом, нині і повсякчас, і на віки віків.

Tropar Resurrectional Tone 3:  Let the heavens be glad, let the earth rejoice, for the Lord has done a mighty deed with His arm. He trampled death by death. He became the first-born of the dead; He saved us from the abyss of Hades and granted great mercy to the world.

Tropar of the Cross, tone 1:  Save your people, O Lord,* and bless Your inheritance.* Grant victory to Your faithful people against enemies,* and protect Your community by Your cross.

Glory be to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; Now and forever and ever. Amen

Kondak of the Great Fast, tone 7:   No longer does the flaming sword guard the gate of Eden;* the tree of the Cross has quenched its flames gloriously.*  The sting of death and the victory of Hades are banished* and You, O my Savior,* came and called to those in Hades;* “Return again to Paradise!”

Instead of “Holy God,” we sing:  “We bow in veneration to Your Holy Cross, O Master; and we glorify your Holy Resurrection.” (3)

            Glory be to The Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever and ever.  Amen.

Ambon Prayer:  O God and Father of glory: for our sake You gave us Your Only--‐begotten Son, and through Him You have made us again children of Your Spirit.  By the power of Your Cross, have compassion on us now, for we have broken Your commandments.  Do not condemn us with those who cut themselves off from You, nor leave us starved for Your spiritual gifts.  Instead, make us worthy to draw near to You in our words and in our hearts, and to prove by our deeds that we are Your children as we imitate the conversion of the prodigal son, for to him You have made known Your ineffable love for sinners.  May we obtain the everlasting joy which You have already prepared for those who do Your will; Through the grace and mercy and love for mankind of Your Only--‐begotten Son with whom You are blessed, together with Your all--‐holy, good, and life--‐giving Spirit, now and for ever and ever.
